  :: About Us

The Brown County Citizen Corps Council was created in March of 2005, consisting of members from fire services, law enforcement, EMS, public health, emergency management, media, schools, elected officials and citizens of Brown County.  The ultimate goal of this council is to establish a volunteer network that will assist law enforcement in combating crime and terrorism at the county level.  This council will also be used to teach volunteer organizations how to handle natural and man-made disasters in the event of a crisis situation, so they can also assist medical and law enforcement personnel.  The hope behind the Brown County Citizen Corps Council is that it can build on the strengths of community organizations that are already present, and prepare these organizations for rapid response training in the event of a massive disaster.

Brown County Citizen Corps Council will:

  • promote and strengthen the Citizen Corps programs at the community level, such as Volunteers in Police Service programs, CERT teams, Medical Reserve Corps units, and Neighborhood Watch groups;

  • provide opportunities for special skills and interests;

  • develop targeted outreach for the community, including special needs groups;

  • provide opportunities of training in first aid and emergency preparedness;

  • organize special projects and community events;

  • encourage cooperation and collaboration among community leaders; and

  • capture smart practices and report accomplishments; and

  • create opportunities for all residents to participate
